The number one  thing I have learned since joining the Bow & Arrow team is the importance of healthy hair. I never realized as a newer stylist the amount of damage we do to our hair. Mechanical damage being the most obvious one. How hot are your hot styling tools heating up to at home? Are you using a tool that allows you to lower the temperature gage to 300 degrees or lower? What products are you using at home? Even if you are using professional products, they may be causing more harm than good.

We like to educate every client on the importance of healthy hair and how to achieve your desired goals. We truly believe healthy hair comes first. This starts with knowing the pH of your shampoo or wash, conditioner, and all hair products that you use at home.  When curling your hair, the temperature of your iron definitely matters. For those with fine or thin hair, keep your iron set below 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Any higher and your strands may burn. For those with coarse or thicker hair, have your curling iron set between 200 degrees and 300 degrees. This is so important because most tools are automatically set for 350 or above. Make sure you are always checking the temperature and try the lowest number first before turning it up. We use BioIonic tools in the salon on our clients and also retail them. These tools are great for at home use and we love them because the heat can be adjusted, it was created by stylists, and they lead the hair tool industry in ionic technology.

Since I joined the team, I’ve jumped on the New Wash bandwagon and in 8 short weeks have noticed a huge change in the way my hair feels and looks. Even better, I am washing my hair LESS, which is great for the longevity of my gloss. New Wash is pH balanced and is made with natural essential oils to clean away dirt instead of detergents. As for heating tools, I turned the temperature down and stopped using hairsprays and aerosols to set my waves and changed to the POWDER from Hairstory instead.  "While ensuring oil-freedom, the sheer genius of this translucent powder instantly creates Bardot-worthy body (tease no more), extends the life of a hard-won hairstyle, beefs up braids, and helps updos hold up. Microfine granules of vegetable and mineral matter are invisible to the eye, silky in hand, and the nose? Smells sublime. So powder on!" I mean, who wouldn't want that?

I’m so excited to be part of the team and can’t wait to learn even more!

XO,

Kim
